Thanksgiving: The Gift of Giving and Receiving

Yesterday as I was walking on the beach I thought about all the things I’m grateful in my life in preparation for today being Thanksgiving. I don’t know about you, but I do this on a daily basis in my journal. It’s something that keeps me grounded and focused on what’s good in my life.

Giving thanks relies on your ability to give and receive and acknowledge what others have contributed to your life as well as what you have created for yourself and how you contribute to others.

Your ability to give is the reflection, acknowledgment and appreciation of what you have received.

There are many ways you can give love by giving thanks:

* You can teach what you’ve learned

* You can give your time

* You can give your attention

* You can give your ideas

* You can give your money to a cause you believe in

When I look at the totality of my life, I’ve had a pretty great life that I’m very grateful for. At the same time, nobody’s life is a straight line to the top.  There are times when you hit bottom and there are times when you really depend on the support of your friends who love you.

I’m no history teacher, but I can tell you that all those years ago when the pilgrims came to this country, it was no day at the beach. They had a lot to deal with just to stay alive and make a new home for themselves.

And yet at that one point in time they came together to give thanks. And when I look at the struggles many people are going through right now, I know that no matter what your personal situation we can all find things we are grateful for today.

For me, the last 18 months have been quite a roller coaster with the end of a 17 year marriage and the ripple effect that created in every other area of my life and yet those months have also been filled with joy and some of the happiest times.

I have so many things I’m grateful for that may not have showed up if not for those difficult situations. For one thing, I developed much deeper relationships with my friends and found some new friends. I’ve allowed myself to be much more open and honest and vulnerable in my life and I’m very grateful for the wonderful gifts I’ve experienced because I’ve opened my heart in that way.

Over the years, especially since writing, “Change One Thing, Change Your Life”, I’ve discovered that most people either have a difficult time with giving or receiving.

Today, take a look at which is easier for you to do.  If you can give all day long but find it difficult to allow someone to do something for you, give that pleasure to someone who loves you today and let them experience how wonderful it feels to give.

If you’re one of those people who is good about receiving, but maybe you’ve convinced yourself you don’t have anything worth giving, just try giving a little bit to someone you love today and see what happens.  How about saying something nice and watching how that makes the other person light up.  That’s your gift.

This is a day for stepping out of your normal comfort zone and really experiencing what Thanksgiving is all about.  I promise you’ll feel better at the end of the day for doing it.

Product Launches FINALLY Dead?

Important List-Building Tip: Video Cameras

Just last week I had 2 different people call and ask me what kind of video camera they needed or if they could use the built in one on their laptop.  This is not my area of expertise, but it is what Mike Koenigs knows. Mike is not only a good friend, but one of the returning faculty members two years in a row at my Women’s Business Empowerment Summit-he really knows his stuff!

What a day!…But I think it’s finally fixed

I have to say that being home for the last week has been a true pleasure.  I’ve been taking hour long walks on the beach every afternoon, I’m almost unpacked and now I’m off to have lunch with a friend.  It’s been great to start re-connecting with all my friends who live in the San Diego area and more are calling & emailing telling me they are here all the time.  That’s what happens when you work virtually, I don’t keep track of where people actually live!

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I’m re-running this article that originally appeared in eraly April. I’ve been doing a lot of introspection the last few weeks, since leaving my house in Scottsdale where I had spent the last few years of my marraige and moving to the beach.

As part of that I had a conversation with a woman about breast cancer where I revealed things about my own cure that I’ve never talked about except to my closest friends. And then I said something that stopped her dead in her tracks.

She said, “You have to share this because my sister has been struggling with breast cancer for almost 3 years and she’s depressed and I don’t know what else I can do to help her…but you do.”

So I’m going to do 2 follow-up articles after this and I would suggest that you forward this ezine to anyone you know that has had breast cancer or knows someone who has and have them become a subscriber so they get the next 2 issues where I will reveal my personal journey to a cure that took place within 30 days of being diagnosed with no
recurrence in alomst 10 years. And then in the 3rd article in this series I’ll reveal the rest of the story, that was the most impactful part, that changed the coure of my life.

I have to tell you that even writing this here makes me a little anxious about doing these articles because it was so personal and not the general accepted course to follow.

NOTE: I do have to say that this is my personal expereince and I have no medical training and nothing I share with you should be taken as medical advise.  You should always consult your doctor.

On a lighter side, back to business. I think I’m going to leave this section exactly as it was last time this article ran because I still want you to listen to this call and tell me what you think. I hope you’re having great fall weather because it certainly is above average here in San Diego, expecting 80 at the beach and it’s almost the end of September. It should be a beautiful weekend for Brendon Burchard’s tent event with John Gray & Marianne Williamson.

For once I’m driving somewhere instead of flying! I’m driving up to Long Beach as you read this. Given my schedule it seems that every week while you’re reading this ezine I’m on a plane. Next week I’ll be flying back from Atlanta to San Diego. I’ve been home for a day here and there and while trying to get at least some work done, I’d say I’m 75% unpacked. I won’t be home for more than 1 day until October 6th and then I have a guest for a few days.

My New York trip ended with a fabulous at an outdoor bistro on the Upper West Side with my friend Dr. Fern Kazlow followed by a side trip on the way back to the car for some cheesecake. It didn’t matter that I had just eaten enough gnocchi for 3 people, I wasn’t leaving NYC without having cheesecake.

I’ll tell you more later about the exciting new programs Dr. K. and I are working on.

I’m flying back to San Diego from New York as you read this. The movers packed me up last Monday, I drove to San Diego and the truck unloaded on Tuesday leaving me 2 days to unpack and get ready for my trip to New York. On the same day the roofers began the process of taking off the old roof and putting on a new one. I’m glad I was only there for 3 days of the pounding.

In New York I’m working with my friend Dr. Fern Kazlow who did a wonderful small group mentoring program for her students over the weekend and now we’re working on creating product. I have some exciting new programs of my own that will be launching soon so I’ll keep you posted on those as we get closer.
